6. River Oaks

River Oaks is an affluent community located in the geographic center of the city (halfway between Downtown and Uptown). Possibly the most prestigious address in Houston, River Oaks features both graceful, older mansions placed on beautifully landscaped lawns and modern structures that reflect the progressive, visionary attitueds of thier owners.

The exquisite estate of Bayou Bend is located in River Oaks. Designed by the prominent architect John F. Staub for Miss Ima Hogg and her brothers, the house contains one of the finest collections of American decorative arts in the country. Bayou Bend and its gardens were donated to the Museum of Fine Arts. The gardens erupt in colored blooms every year during the annual Azalea Trail.
